Frequently Asked Questions

It’s advanced training for serious security pros—covering firearms, emergency response, and high-risk situations. Think next-level protection.  This license is required if you are looking to carry a firearm as a commissioned security officer in Texas.  


The full course runs at least 45 hours, including training, testing, and live-fire qualification. 


Yep! Score at least 75% to earn your certificate. 


Yes. You’ll need Level II & Level III training certificates plus a mental health clearance using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) from a licensed Psychologist or Psychiatrist. 


 Good news—it doesn’t expire unless it’s denied or withdrawn. 


 Your Level III license is valid for 2 years from the issue date.


 Nope! If it’s part of your training, you’re covered—no extra certificate needed. 


Not everything. Handgun and self-defense training is in-person with a certified instructor.  Participants must demonstrate the ability to safely and proficiently operate a handgun.  You’ll need to pass a live fire qualification test with at least 70%.
